LNG in Passamaquoddy Bay

Photograph

LNG in Passamaquoddy Bay is a new challenge with startling implications. Developer 1 proposes a terminal at Split Rock near Eastport. LNG will be regassified and transported by an 8-mile long LNG underwater pipeline through Western Passage and Passamaquoddy Bay to storage tanks at Robbinston, Maine, from there they will go to industrial customers at Baileyville and will join the Sable Gas Pipline going south. Developer 2 proposes a terminal and tank at Robbinston with a similar or shared pipeline going to Baileyville. All tankers going to either of these terminals must pass through sovereign Canadian waters previously identified as having value far exceeding the risk.
